ABSTRACT

Introduction: comprehensive cardiovascular rehabilitation of patients with acute myocardial infarction is essential to achieve their physical and psychological well-being, and their reintegration into social life. Objective: to develop a psychoeducational intervention strategy to enhance comprehensive cardiovascular rehabilitation in patients convalescent from acute myocardial infarction, with the vision of consulted specialists. Methods: an observational, descriptive and cross-sectional study was carried out at "Dr. Celestino Hernández Robau" University Hospital, in Santa Clara, between October 2019 and January 2021. The sample consisted of 27 patients who come to the Cardiology consultation, and 7 specialists according to inclusion criteria. Medical history review, semi-structured interviews with patients and specialists, a survey on knowledge of the disease, an experiential self-report, and a lifestyle evaluation were the techniques applied. Descriptive statistics were used according to the measurement of the variables as well as content analysis and triangulation of the information. Results: a moderately sufficient knowledge of the disease prevailed in patients diagnosed with an unhealthy lifestyle; arterial hypertension was the main associated risk factor. The intervention strategy was developed according to the psychoeducational needs identified by the patients with the vision of the consulted specialists. We verified that they have a lack of abilities to self-control their emotional reactions after the cardiovascular event. Conclusions: the elaborated strategy was satisfactorily valued by professional judgment, which indicates the possibility of being applied to the users to whom it is directed.

ABSTRACT

Abstract The study analyzes the structural changes experienced by an interprofessional team implementing a psychosocial intervention program for victims of war in Colombia. The program is called "PAPSIVI" (Programa de Atención Psicosocial y Salud Integral a Víctimas), which has been operating in Colombia since 2013, thanks to Law 1448 of 2011 to improve the quality of life and repair the damage of the victims of the armed conflict in Colombia. It only served people registered in the Single Registry of Victims (RUV), which had 9'165,126 records throughout the country until September 2021. This program follows a comprehensive and restorative approach that defines victims as protagonists of their own process of empowerment and positive change (Laplante and Holguin, 2006; Thompson, 1996). For this purpose, a multilevel intervention is carried out at the individual, family and community levels. The program is implemented by teams of professionals (psychologists, social workers and community facilitators) of varying sizes depending on the number of victims served in the municipalities. Psychologists provide individual psychological care and, to a lesser extent, family therapy is also offered to try to repair psychosocial damage from exposure to situations of violence (Oficina de Promoción Social, 2017). Social workers carry out community interventions to promote the associative fabric and social capital. Community promoters are facilitators and connect professionals with the potential beneficiaries of the intervention. The latter are very important, having themselves the status of victims, which increases the ecological validity of the intervention. Due to the characteristics of the implementation of this initiative, which takes into account the difficulties of the context (with situations of deprivation and vulnerability), as well as the particularities of the participants, it is valid to ask in this research what are the structural changes experienced by the teams of professionals who implement PAPSIVI. For this, structural evaluation methods were applied to identify changes in the cohesion of recognition networks among professionals, the preference to collaborate and the exchange of information sent and received. Data collection took place in two time series (T1 before - T2 after) with an interval of three months. Statistics applied to relational data analysis were used to determine changes in the networks at time T2. In the results it was found that in the baseline period the density in the recognition [t = 1.7105, (95 % CI: -.0123 - .185), p < .0444] and work preference [t = 2.0942, (95 % CI: .005 - .1521), p < .0218] networks increased. Information exchange networks did not experience significant changes. Multiple regressions at the dyadic level indicate that the preference for working and exchanging information at T1 predicts information exchange relative to both information requests received and sent at T2. It is concluded that the results shed light for: (a) optimize the design of psychosocial intervention teams; (b) improve their functioning by introducing horizontal organizational communication tools (among the members of each team), transversal (among the members of the teams implementing the program in different municipalities), and vertical (by promoting communication between professionals and program managers/responsible persons), and (c) achieve that changes in the structure of the teams serve as a diagnostic tool for functional problems of the team associated with the exchange of professional information and the referral of users. Ultimately, better integration of the teams leads to better psychosocial profiles of the users of programs such as PAPSIVI and allows them to better adapt their activities to the needs of the users, which improves the effectiveness of the intervention (Virto, 2021).

ABSTRACT

Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a disease with fatal, disabling, and costly consequences for individuals, families, communities and countries. To systematically establish the psychosocial risk factors associated with GDM that should be monitored during and after pregnancy. Systematic review in PubMed/Medline and Cochrane databases. 1188 articles were found and 41 were selected. Some main themes were conflicts with cultural practices, social stigma, ethnicity/race influence, low educational level, sleep quality, breastfeeding problems, concern for ones own health/baby, low perception of the risk of GDM/DM2 in the future, stress, anxiety and depression, limited knowledge, lack of support from the partner/family/social and health professionals, low levels of self-care/self-efficacy and difficulties with changes in the lifestyle. These factors should be monitored in pregnant women during and after delivery. Treatments should consider the psychological impact and the risk of developing DM2 after childbirth and should be included in clinical practice guidelines. Multi-ethnic populations and the most demographically and socioeconomically vulnerable groups are more susceptible to developing GDM.

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT

@#Introduction: This study measured the outcome of the Optimal Health Program (OHP) among frontline healthcare workers during the COVID-19 pandemic. The OHP is a wellness-based self-management intervention focused on well-being to gain optimal health. OHP is originally from Australia and has been translated, culturally adapted and branded as the Program Kesihatan Optimum Sanubari (SANUBARI). The program was conducted as a psychosocial intervention and the outcomes measured were self-efficacy, coping styles and well-being. Methods: Eligible participants were nurses who actively managed COVID-19 inpatients in Hospital Kuala Lumpur and committed to complete the intervention. Those who did not provide consent or had comorbidity, unstable medical or psychiatry illnesses were excluded. 43 nurses were recruited through convenience sampling method and completed outcome measures from General Self-Efficacy Scale, Brief COPE and WHO-5 Well-being Index, before and 1-month after the intervention. The OHP was conducted via group-based, using OHP Sanubari workbook with 5 weekly sessions by trained facilitators and lasted for 60 to 90 minutes per session. Results: Significant improvement was observed 1-month post intervention for self-efficacy (t(42)=5.64, p <0.001) and well-being(t(42)=2.14, p<0.05); different approach coping strategies(acceptance, use of informational support, positive reframing, active coping, and planning) and avoidant coping strategies(distraction, venting, denial, and substance use). Whilst, humor coping reduced significantly 1-month post-intervention (t(42)=3.66, p<0.05). Conclusion: This study reports the positive outcome of OHP on the mental health status of healthcare workers during the pandemic. This program can be considered as a tool towards optimal health throughout their career.

ABSTRACT

We aim to present a proposal of a group psychosocial intervention offered for adult female sexual offenders, caregivers, and mothers. The intervention is being developed at Federal District, Brazil, with female people coming from judicial referrals. Professionals in the areas of justice, health, social work, and psychology need to advance in the study and understanding this theme to think about action and therapeutic support for these women. The intervention is a focal and brief approach, with emphasis on the creation of a ludic environment as a facilitator of group interactions and discussion about the themes: identity; trust in affective and social relationships; personal experience with physical and sexual violence; gender configuration; and sexuality expression and future. The individual approach is also based on focusing on these themes. The offering of help to the female caregiver or the mother has an active participation in the interruption of the sexual offense circuit, since this violence is extremely hidden, bringing a prolonged condition of vulnerability to the victims. The value of this text is highlighted indicating the description of an action directed to a population that is permanently not studied and whose recognition is avoided. The limits of this proposal are found in the absence of other initiatives that would allow a discussion about this experience.(AU)

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT Introduction: Injuries will always be with an athlete throughout their career. When analyzing the factors that cause athletic injuries, their coaches usually consider environmental and physical training factors, ignoring psychological factors. Objective: Investigate the mental health status of college athletes after serious injuries during competition, discussing the impact of sports injuries on athletes' mental health. Methods: Twelve college athletes were selected as research volunteers. They were divided into two groups by randomization. The control group was followed by traditional psychotherapy while the experimental group received the post-traumatic mental intervention. A comparison was carried out and mainly the general situation of sports injuries and the effect of intervention treatment were analyzed. The impact of psychological intervention methods on athletes' mental health after injuries were also studied using mathematical statistics to analyze the data. Results: There were significant differences in STAI scores in the experimental group before and after the intervention. BFS scores in the experimental group were significantly higher than those in the control group before and after an intervention. There was no significant difference in the indicators in the control group. Conclusion: Post-traumatic psychological intervention positively affects the mental health recovery of college athletes. Level of evidence II; Therapeutic studies - investigation of treatment outcomes.

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Bipolar affective disorder (BPAD) is a chronic psychiatric disorder with an admixture of frequent and recurrent episodes of mania, hypomania, depression, or mixed episodes. More than 1% of the world's population and at least 0.3% of the Indian population are affected by BPAD. We have chosen a case of BPAD with multiple episodes to study the impact of psychosocial intervention in the management of the illness of the affected person and family. The index client, a male, Presentation of the case: 32 years of age, visited the Institute of Psychiatry (IOP) with caregivers and was referred to the psychiatric social work department of the IOP on April 24, 2019, with symptoms of mania and psychosis. He had 7-years history of psychiatric illness, including multiple episodes of mania and depression, as well as frequent irregular medication; burden and conflict, insufficient social support, poor communication and interaction patterns, poor coping and problem-solving skills in the family. Therapists imparted Interpersonal and Social Rhythm Therapy (IPSRT) and family-focused therapy to the client and family members. It was found that there Discussion: was a significant difference between pre- and postpsychosocial interventions in the life and wellbeing of a person with BPAD and his family. Post intervention, client's level of social and occupational functioning was increased, high expressed emotion had been notably decreased, adaptive patterns had been improved, and cohesion in the family had been strengthened. The client and his family members learned to prevent development of future episodes. Conclusion: Psychiatric social work interventions have been a key area in the management of BPAD involving the family, which helps in maintaining a prolonged euthymic period and better treatment compliance.

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT Socio-environmental disasters affect rural areas unequally, compared to urban areas. This reality makes the mobilization of community resources essential when facing these events. The objective of this study was to analyze the construction of meanings derived from the process of community intervention after a disaster (forest fires) between the La Palma community and the Tierra de Esperanza Foundation team, posing as a research question: What shared meanings emerge from the intervention process experienced by the La Palma community and the intervention team? The study had a phenomenological design, using interpretative discourse analysis. The results show the emergence of categories linked to identity processes, rurality, and the unfolding of psychosocial processes during the intervention experience, linked to community coping, social support, the key role of female leadership, and community learning. It is discussed how the awareness of this rural community increased its capacity for agency in the face of events with little government support.

ABSTRACT

In this paper, we offer an in-depth analysis of relevant scientific literature and a series of critical reflections based on a narrative review of the impact that the early stages of the Covid-19 pandemic had on Latin American psychology. We performed a non-exhaustive search, selection, and analysis of different documentary sources in scientific databases, institutional repositories, and websites of national and regional psychology organizations between May 25 and 31, 2020. In particular, we consulted SciELO, Redalyc, Dialnet, and Google Scholar using the following individual key words associated to psychology: "Coronavirus", "Covid-19" and "Pandemic". Various types of documents were retrieved for a subsequent in-depth analysis (e.g., articles, institutional documents, notes, bulletins, recommendation guides, etc.). Our review allowed us to identify three challenges for psychology in the region: (1) insertion of psychology in public policies; (2) construction of an own agenda of psychological research; (3) evaluation of practices and reorientation of professional training processes.

ABSTRACT

Background: Opioid dependence is a conundrum that significantly contributes to global mortality, crimes, and transmission of diseases such as hepatitis (B and C), human immunodeficiency virus and perhaps, coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). There are contradictory findings on the efficacy of psychosocially-assisted pharmacological treatment of opioid dependence in adults. Objective: The overall objective of this research is to investigate if psychosocially-assisted pharmacological therapy has significantly better effect than pharmacological therapy with regards treatment outcomes of opioid dependent adults. Methods: All methods employed in this study are in conformity with the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analysis (PRISMA) framework for systematic review which involve identification, screening, eligibility and inclusion. This systematic review involved PubMed literature search on randomized controlled trials published between 1st January 2015 to 1st October 2021. Results: PubMed search yielded 5,216 articles which were screened using inclusion and exclusion criteria resulting in 19 articled being retained for data extraction. Of the 19 articles used in this study, 13 (68.4%) articles having a combined sample size of 1,928 (60.6%) showed that addition of psychosocial intervention to pharmacotherapy significantly improved abstinence from opioid abuse. Conclusion: The outcome of evaluation of the overall evidences presented in the 19 articles used in this study is that psychosocially-assisted pharmacological therapy is significantly better than pharmacological treatment with respect to enhancement of abstinence from opioid abuse among opioid-dependent adults. Additionally, this study has provided specific combinations of psychosocial and pharmacological treatment that can produce significant beneficial effect on opioid abstinence. The huge downturn in randomized controlled trials on treatment of opioid dependence among adults has been highlighted in this study.

ABSTRACT

Background: Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) is defined as the intermediate stage between the cognitive changes associated with normal aging and dementia. People with MCI can benefit from the implementation of multidimensional non-pharmacological interventions. Aim: To determine the effect of a Multidimensional Intervention based on cognitive, physical, and social training (IMCFS) on the cognitive performance of a group of people with MCI. Materials and Methods: Pre and post intervention measurements of cognitive and physical parameters were performed in 10 adults aged 76 ± 4 years with MCI, who participated in the IMCFS lasting three months. Results: A significant improvement was observed in global cognitive performance, anterograde memory, visuospatial memory and in associative learning after IMCFS implementation. No significant effects of the IMCFS on attention, executive functions, language, and viso-constructive skills were observed. Conclusions: Older adults with MCI benefit from the implementation of a multidimensional intervention, such as IMCFS, which is feasible to implement and integrate into the programs offered by the Chilean healthcare network.

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT This writing is an unfolding of a common investigative path of the authors based on the work of Brazilian artist Lygia Clark, especially concerning the interfaces art-life, clinical art, and political art involved in her works and propositions. We have psychology and dance as professional-existential starting territories and we are interested in the experiences woven through a transdisciplinary plot. In the artist's centennial year, 2020, we awoke the memory inscribed in the body of Lygia Clark's trajectory, asking ourselves about the possible contributions of her legacy in contemporary times. We understand that colonial violence, which insists on these time, affects the body, anesthetizing its sensitive dimension and absorbing its creative dimension, and is established through a policy of disenchantment with life. The movement of health production, which Lygia's path inspires, makes us affirm her path as a possibility of activating the sensitive dimension of the body and restoring the sense of enchantment. By sharing some memories of experiments that were created in contagion with Lygia's work, we want to create breaths that release meanings to the adventure of living and weave spaces for activating poetic health.

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT This essay is based on the need to make explicit contribution that community social psychology makes to the understanding of a process of reparation for victims of human rights violations and infractions of the international humanitarian law. To account for this contribution, it begins recognizing why psychosocial reparation could be an asset for public health based on the review of the Public Health Plan 20011-2021, pro-posed by Ministry of Health in Colombia. After those four elements that social psychology contributes to public health are described to carry out psychosocial rehabilitation processes that are more consistent and appropriate to the needs of the people participating in them.
